Vegetarian Sandwich Recipes
There are some excellent vegetarian sandwich recipes around the world. Sandwiches are so versatile, even
vegetarian ones and sandwiches are one of the original fast foods.
They can be made in advance and eaten later and they can be hot or cold. Even with vegetarian sandwiches recipes
there is a huge range of possibilities even before you consider which type of bread to use.
There are also literally dozens of different types of bread too. Furthermore, vegetarian sandwiches
recipes can be normal, warm or toasted.
Vegetarian Sandwich Recipes
There are various totally different types of bread and almost all of them are regularly used for making
sandwiches.
Some of the most popular are white bread, brown bead, soda bread, granary bread, rye, cornmeal, stone-ground,
whole wheat and rice flour bread.
A general rule of thumb is that the bread ought to be at least a day old, because people get indigestion from
fresh bread.
Still, a lot of people prefer to use fresh bread in their vegetarian sandwiches recipes. On a more practical
level, fresh bread is much more difficult to slice.
Some bakers bake a special loaf that they call a 'sandwich loaf'. This is a nonsense really, because any bread
can be used for vegetarian sandwiches.
A sandwich loaf usually just means a square loaf, because many foods come in square tins and they fit in
toasters more easily.
However, if you are using vegetarian sandwich recipes, you will probably not be using tinned foods anyway.
Once you have the bread, the next thing is the filling. When you are thinking about the filling for your
sandwich, you can wonder about whether to spread the bread with margarine or butter.
In my opinion, a good loaf does not need margarine (or butter). The fat content should be baked into the
bread.
Once you have decided on the the bread and spread, the filling is of importance. The best vegetarian sandwich
recipes have varied textures and tastes in my opinion.
I like salad-based vegetarian sandwich recipes made with iceberg lettuce and grated carrots as a basis.
There are different points of view on the size of a perfect sandwich. I like thick door step sandwiches or
sub-style sandwiches, although if you grandmother is coming to tea, it would be better to consider small sandwiches
of an inch or two square.
If you would like to go even more up market with your vegetarian sandwich recipes, you can cut the crusts
off.
French Dip Sandwich Recipes
Many people might think that French dip sandwich recipes do not really have a place on a web site about
vegetarian sandwich recipes, however, it depends on your style of vegetarianism.
Typical French dip sandwich recipes use boiled beef to make very soft, shredded meat and a sauce which can be
used as the basis of the dip.
However, with a little imagination, you could use fish or even some vegetables like mushrooms or pumpkin.
French dip sandwich recipes do not necessarily have to be made of beef.
Healthy Pizza Recipes
Healthy pizza recipes will have a lower fat content as a starting point. It is better to use bread instead of
pastry as the base, because it involves less fat.
There is no need to use meat in a pizza, of course, which makes a pizza a good food for vegetarians. Healthy
pizza recipes can involve small amounts of expensive foodstuffs that you would not normally buy.
Vegetables and seafood are popular ingredients for healthy pizza recipes. The last consideration for healthy
pizza recipes is the cheese.
There is little point in cutting back on fat in the pizza and then covering it with full fat cheese.
Vegetarian Recipes For Kids
Kids like fatty, fast foods, but this is not always a bad thing. Children need lots of calories for growing and
energy, so you can find plenty of vegetarian recipes for kids.
One of the most popular vegetarian recipes for kids is chips and something. By 'chips' here I mean deep-fried
chopped potatoes, sometimes called French fries.
Chips have had a bad press because of their high fat content, but there are ways of making them less fatty and
you could serve them with a salad instead of eggs or beans.
Quick Vegetarian Recipes
Quick vegetarian recipes are very easy to imagine. Three of the first quick vegetarian recipes to spring to mind
are: a salad, a sandwich and a fruit compot.
If you are looking for a light snack any of those three quick vegetarian recipes could be made in minutes or you
could combine the three courses to make a more substantial meal.
Pizzas are also good examples of quick vegetarian recipes. If you had premade pizza bases in the freezer, you
would only have to put a topping on one and put it in the oven.
There really are plenty of quick vegetarian recipes.
