Vegetable Dishes.
Most people in Wales have always been meat-eaters, although there are the traditional food crops as
elsewhere in Britain.
Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, cabbages, swede, turnips and seaweed. All the usual stuff, except the seaweed
(lava)
Although Wales is predominantly made up of meat-eaters, there are a few vegetarian recipes here. Try
the 'Other' section too for laver bread and 'Glamorgan
Sausage'.

- Pastai Datws (Potato Pie)
This supper dish, found throughout Wales, is traditionally served with pickled beetroot or pickled red cabbage.
- Stwns (Mash).
Potatoes and turnips are mashed together to be served with liver and onions, either fried or baked in the oven. This particular meal was especially popular in north Wales in the 19th. Century and was known as Stwns Rwdan. Swede, peas or broad beans can be used to replace the turnips in this traditional dish.
